How it all began

interAKtive was originally set up in 1994 under the name of GASP

(Group to Aid and Support Parents of Children with Complex Communication Disorders)

Its membership comprised a small group of parents, all of whom had a child who had attended 'the little group',

an Epsom based specialist nursery for children on the autism spectrum. When the time came to move on to school, the parents felt it would be helpful to stay in contact, in order to continue their friendships, share advice and experiences, and to maintain links with others who shared common difficulties. They went on to organise trips, outings and play-schemes, forming valuable links with specialist schools and professionals. To this day interAKtive is still run by parent volunteers, of children or young adults on the autism spectrum.

All interAKtive Committee Members are volunteers and parents of young adults on the autism spectrum
